Marissa McLain and Michael Potter bring an evening of intimate, swinging jazz to Stookey’s Blue Room — McLain, described as having a “warm and rich voice, with a giant sense of swing,” is an emerging San Francisco vocalist whose deeply unique approach to the Great American Songbook is rooted in endless curiosity, genuine respect for the tradition, and the full emotional range that jazz demands. Joining her is pianist Michael Potter, recently returned from two years teaching and performing in Japan, whose global sensibility and deep love for straight-ahead swing — alongside his fluency in jazz fusion, R&B, and soul — makes him one of the Bay Area scene’s most versatile and compelling accompanists.
