Emmett Van Leer brings an intimate piano-trio set to The Deluxe, blending original compositions with a modern, lyrical approach to jazz improvisation. The Providence-born pianist and composer is currently studying with Helen Sung and Edward Simon at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and his music draws from the expressive space between contemporary jazz, post-bop, and the classic piano-trio tradition.
Max Haymer Power Trio brings the Grammy-nominated pianist to San Francisco for his Black Cat debut, a three-night residency built for drama, momentum, and explosive live interplay in what Haymer calls "athletic jazz." He spent a decade as pianist and musical director for ten-time Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval and also collaborates with vocalist Jane Monheit; a recent South Arts Jazz Road Award recipient, Haymer moves from striking original compositions to reimagined Broadway and jazz standards charged with Afro-Cuban heat.
