Ray Obiedo Group at Mr. Tipples showcases the Bay Area guitarist and composer’s rhythm-forward contemporary jazz, shaped by Latin and Brazilian grooves, R&B, funk, and jazz harmony. Obiedo’s long career includes work with Herbie Hancock, Julian Priester, Pete Escovedo, and many others; his 1993 album Sticks and Stones reached Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Top Ten, while his recent work continues through his Oakland-based Rhythmus Records label.
