The Kevin Gerzevitz Trio

Kevin Gerzevitz brings a deeply rooted and refreshingly offbeat piano trio to Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio, joined by Ari Munkres on bass and Tim Bulkley on drums. Gerzevitz came up listening to Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Thelonious Monk, before his college advisor pointed him toward the stride and boogie of Jelly Roll Morton, James P. Johnson, and Fats Waller — a foundation he later broadened with the harmonic worlds of McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, and Keith Jarrett. For the past six years, the trio has made a specialty of the quirky, swinging compositions of cult pianist Herbie Nichols, performing regularly at San Francisco’s beloved Flower Piano series in the SF Botanical Garden.
