Mose Def: The Music of Mose Allison

Mose Def at Bird & Beckett celebrates the music of Mose Allison, the Mississippi-born pianist and songwriter whose wry, blues-rooted jazz shaped generations of musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. The project is led by San Francisco vocalist Dean Mermell, a co-creator of Golden Gate Park’s Flower Piano festival, who describes Allison as “the Randy Newman of jazz — equal parts musical and lyrical brilliance, with a healthy dash of snark.” Mermell is joined by Tom Griesser on tenor saxophone, Kymry Esainko on piano, Joe Kyle, Jr. on bass, and Eric Garland on drums, digging into a catalog of wise blues, laconic swing, and sly social commentary.
