Kenny Warren Quartet at Bird & Beckett brings the Brooklyn trumpeter and composer to Glen Park for a night of original music. A Denver native who moved to New York in 2002 and studied at SUNY Purchase, Warren has released more than a dozen albums as a leader on Whirlwind, Out of Your Head, and his own Pretty Polymorphous, among them the 2024 trio record Sweet World, and has been named a Rising Star trumpeter in DownBeat’s Critics Poll. He’s joined by guitarist Liberty Ellman, a founding member of Henry Threadgill’s Zooid who played on and produced the Pulitzer Prize–winning In for a Penny, In for a Pound. Rounding out the band are two Bay Area reed players: clarinetist Ben Goldberg, whose New Klezmer Trio opened up radical territory in Ashkenazi roots music in the 1990s and who has since worked with John Zorn, Tin Hat, and Myra Melford, and tenor saxophonist Raffi Garabedian, who plays alongside Goldberg in the Oakland improvising group Insect Life and teaches jazz saxophone at Sonoma State
