Junk Parlor brings their deeply rooted, genre-bending sound to the Riptide — born from the story of Yanos, a Hungarian accordion player who immigrated to Oakland in 1907, the band was formed four generations later by his great-grandson, with Eastern European harmony alive and sparkling throughout the music. A lyrical collage of Eastern European folk, punk, and indie, the band — RT Goodrich on drums and vocals, Laela Peterson-Stolen on violin and vocals, Emily Froberg on bass and vocals, and JD Limelight on accordion and vocals — sways between earnestly upbeat and time-warping lullaby, crafting an original sound that leaves you remembering why you fell in love with music in the first place.
