John Brothers Piano Company

Oakland-based instrumental outfit The John Brothers Piano Company brings their high-energy sound to The Deluxe. Formed by UC Berkeley graduates who famously started out hauling a spinet piano to busk at BART stations and street corners across the Bay Area, the group has since performed at Outside Lands, Monterey Jazz Festival, and SFJAZZ. The quartet features John Thatcher Boomer on piano and clarinet, Arlo Perlstein on trumpet and piano, Kent Kessinger on bass, and Jimi Marks on drums and piano. It pairs intricate chamber-like arrangements and early stride piano with the raw, driving energy of a live punk show.
