Jeffrey Burr Trio with Noel Jewkes

Jeffrey Burr Trio with Noel Jewkes at Bird & Beckett pairs the guitarist — who played with Dizzy Gillespie at sixteen and worked with Norah Jones before she was famous — with one of the Bay Area’s most durable reed players. Burr, the son of two classical bassists and a William Paterson graduate, has two albums out, the solo archtop record By Myself and the trio date Bright Blue, and most recently turned up on Erik Jekabson’s Breakthrough. He’s joined by bassist Eric Markowitz and drummer Smith Dobson V, the Oakland multi-instrumentalist son of pianist Smith Dobson and vocalist Gail Dobson. Guest Noel Jewkes, who joined his family’s dance orchestra at twelve and recorded Just Passin’ Thru in 1979 under the name Dr. Legato, has been called a compelling, cool-toned tenor player by critic Andrew Gilbert.
