Dave Rickets & the Resting Trad Face
June 20 @ 3:20 pm - 4:20 pm
Free
Dave Ricketts & The Resting Trad Face bring a lifetime of deep musical devotion to the Makers Stage at Filbert & Grant, led by guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and occasional cornetist Dave Ricketts — a formally trained musician whose studies under Michael Chapdelaine at the University of New Mexico laid the foundation for a career that spans gypsy jazz, blues, gutbucket, R&B, and the roots of early rock and roll. As founder and bandleader of the nationally and internationally celebrated Gaucho Jazz since 2002, Dave has sold out SFJAZZ Festival concerts, performed annually at NYC’s legendary Joe’s Pub, taken Gaucho to Djangofest stages across the country, and even landed a song in the Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder film Destination Wedding. His musical heart beats somewhere between the pre-Django American jazz guitarists he loves — Nick Lucas, Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson — and the blues and country giants like Memphis Minnie, Blind Blake, and Hank Williams, with a deep affection for the lost dawn of rock and roll that makes every performance feel like a joyful excavation of America’s most vital musical roots.
