Daniel Winshall “Denim Dream” Release ft. PHER

Daniel Winshall and Pher at the Black Cat feature Boston-raised upright and electric bassist Daniel Winshall and vocalist-songwriter Pher leading a band reimagining classics from the Family Stone songbook in a modern setting, backed by keyboardist Javier Santiago, guitarist Matt Sewell, and drummer Dom Gervais. A New School for Contemporary Jazz graduate who launched his professional career at 14 playing Wally’s Cafe in Boston, Winshall has since performed and recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Jose James, Lenny White, DRAM, and Joey Alexander, and the set draws from his newly released debut album Denim Dream alongside original songs written by Pher.

Longtime admirers of Bay Area soul icon Sly Stone, the pair bring a jazz- and soul-steeped sensibility to a night that moves between funk-driven reinterpretations and fresh original material.
