Chris Trinidad’s Chroma Tonic

November 7 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$25

Chris Trinidad’s Chroma Tonic at Bird & Beckett brings the Filipino-Canadian bassist, composer and educator’s newest project to Glen Park, a band assembled from players of wildly divergent backgrounds. Trinidad moved from Vancouver to the Bay Area in 2009 and has built an eclectic catalogue on Iridium Records, including Chant Triptych II, which set Gregorian chant melodies against Indian and Balkan instruments, and Chris Trinidad y Con Todo, made with Pacific Mambo Orchestra co-leader Christian Tumalan; he also co-presents an Asian-American jazz showcase at South San Francisco’s Sky Cafe with saxophonist Francis Wong. Chroma Tonic draws on ambient pioneers Brian Eno and Robert Fripp and the electric Miles Davis of the early 1970s, with Trinidad on bass, guitar and synth alongside vocalist and keyboardist Naima Shalhoub, the Lebanese-American singer and restorative justice practitioner whose debut studio album Siphr was co-produced by Tarik “Excentrik” Kazaleh. Scott Oshiro plays flute and electronics, Alex Heigl guitar and effects, and Cy Thompson drums and percussion.
