Brian Melvin Trio

Brian Melvin Trio at Bird & Beckett brings the San Francisco–born, Tallinn-based drummer back to Glen Park for one of his regular returns to the bookshop, joined by Danish guitarist Søren Lee and San Francisco bassist John Wiitala. Melvin recorded five albums with Jaco Pastorius — among them Night Food and Standards Zone, which topped the jazz charts for more than three months — and has worked with Joe Henderson, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Michael Brecker, and Joe Lovano, while co-leading Beatlejazz with pianist David Kikoski. Lee cut his first album in 1990 with Ray Brown, performed with the Jim Hall Quartet at the Village Vanguard in 1991, and released Tranesformation, a set of Coltrane material, with Melvin on Storyville in 2023. Wiitala has anchored the San Francisco scene since the Keystone Korner years, with credits alongside Joe Henderson, Charlie Rouse, James Moody, and Bud Shank, and a Grammy-nominated trio record with pianist Jessica Williams.
