Vibe: Romantic Jazz Cellar | Candlelit Supper Club | Soulful & Historic
Biscuits and Blues is a San Francisco institution that recently celebrated its grand reopening after a long hiatus. Since 1995, this subterranean club has been a sanctuary for blues and jazz enthusiasts, pairing high-caliber national touring acts with genuine Southern hospitality. The dim lights, flickering candle glow, and smooth live music make it one of the city’s most reliable date-night spots.
Live Music & Atmosphere
Most nights center on ticketed performances that bring acclaimed blues and jazz artists into an intimate cellar setting. The room is tuned for warmth and presence, so every table feels close to the bandstand and conversations naturally fall into a listening hush. For a more laid-back visit, Nightly Tunes ’n Bites sessions offer live music with a lower cover, ideal for soaking in the sound over drinks and comfort food.
Dinner and a Show
The menu is a love letter to the South, featuring fan favorites like signature fried chicken, seasonal gumbo, jambalaya, and, of course, fluffy house-made biscuits. Classic cocktails and a curated list of wines and spirits round out the experience, so you can settle in for a full evening without ever leaving your candlelit table. Service is paced around the sets, letting you linger over dessert while the band plays the night out.
Details That Define the Room
• Ticketed shows most nights; advance reservations strongly recommended, as popular acts often sell out.
• Nightly Tunes ’n Bites offerings with a lower cover for casual drop-ins.
• Intimate basement layout designed so every seat feels close to the stage.
• Full Southern-inspired menu available during shows, with attentive table service.
• Steps from Union Square and Powell Street, one of downtown’s last dedicated blues rooms with a lost San Francisco feel.
