Honey Island Swamp Band brings their thrilling, roots-soaked sound to the Boom Boom Room — formed in San Francisco in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina before relocating back to New Orleans, this five-piece band melds country, soul, funk, and blues into something decidedly New Orleanian with an Americana twist. Melody-driven, vocal-driven, and lyric-driven, the band — Aaron Wilkinson (vocals, guitar, mandolin, harmonica), Lee Yankie (guitar, vocals), Chris Spies (keyboards), Sam Price (bass, vocals), and Garland Paul (drums, vocals) — crafts songs that feel at once fresh and like classics you somehow missed the first time around.
