Cantos de mi Tierra

Cantos de mi Tierra at Bird & Beckett is an all-Spanish-language Latin cabaret that works as a collective rather than a fixed band, rotating singers and arrangements around a core of Bay Area players. Formed in the summer of 2023 and launched with three sold-out nights at Martuni’s, the group draws on traditional and folk song as well as modern pop from across the Hispanic diaspora, boleros among them, with members whose roots run to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Guatemala. Pianist and music director Armando Fox, who doubles as a UC Berkeley computer science professor, leads this edition with vocalists Laura Ramos and Edu González, guitarist Jesse Alejandro Cottrell, bassist Anastasia Preston and percussionist Ryan Friedman. The company has played Feinstein’s at the Nikko and returns to the bookshop for a third time since last November.
