Since 2010\, Lugerner has garnered critical acclaim for his numerous albums\, including SLUGish Ensemble: In Solitude (2023) It Takes One to Know One (2022)\, SLUGish Ensemble: An Eight Out of Nine (2018)\, JACKNIFE: The Music of Jackie McLean (2016)\, Gravitations Vol. 1-3 (2013-2015)\, For We Have Heard (2013)\, and Narratives (2010). His compositions have been praised for their “textured\, nearly seamless blend of composition and improvisation” (The Village Voice)\, and The New York Times lauded him as “an impeccably trained multi-reedist.” The San Francisco Examiner notes that “Lugerner’s approach to making music is very much his own\, and he seems to be pursuing it to impressive advantage.” \nLugerner has collaborated with a wide range of jazz masters\, including legendary pianist Fred Hersch\, Grammy-winning pianist Taylor Eigsti\, vocalist Lisa Fischer\, and groundbreaking artists such as Myra Melford\, Tootie Heath\, Eric Harland\, Matt Wilson\, John Hollenbeck\, and Allison Miller. During his development\, he was mentored by renowned musicians such as Jane Ira Bloom\, Miguel Zenon\, Mike DiRubbo\, Chris Cheek\, Ralph Alessi\, and Jamie Baum. \nRaised in the suburbs of San Francisco\, Lugerner grew up in a multicultural\, creatively supportive family. He began performing at a young age\, playing clarinet\, oboe\, and saxophone with college and professional orchestras while organizing local DIY performances. In 2006\, he moved to New York City to attend The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music\, where he graduated with honors in 2010. DESCRIPTION:After 25 years as the lead vocalist for Santana\, Tony Lindsay has garnered 11 Grammy awards\, traveled on several world tours and recorded on seven CDs: Milagro (1992)\, Supernatural (1999)\, Shaman (2002)\, Ceremony (2003) and Food for Thought (2004)\, Ultimate Santana (2007) and Multi-Dimensional Warrior (2008).  Their current tour involves Santana’s First Rock Residency: an exclusive two-year deal for 36 shows with AEG at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s concert hall “The Joint\,” which began May 27\, 2009.  When not on tour with Santana\, Lindsay performs at various local venues and festivals. Charles leads a trio and has performed internationally in Taiwan\, Singapore and Japan. His debut album\, Charles\, Play!\, was featured as one of the Best Albums of 2024 in Downbeat Magazine. Charles is also a passionate educator and his students have gone to the best music schools in the nation with full scholarships (Juilliard\, MSM\, Berklee\, NEC) and won a variety of awards (YoungArts distinctions\, all-state band placements\, and first place for arranging and performance in the Charles Mingus competition).He serves as the historian of the South Bay Traditional Jazz Society. He is also an admin to Jazzcord\, a popular jazz Discord community with over 7000 members\, where he writes historical essays and album reviews regularly.
