SUMMARY:Rabiah Kabir’s Jezebel: Rewritten Project
DESCRIPTION:Leela Paymai | Bass\nJulian Lopez | Piano\nJaycie Grady | Drums\nNathan Sariowan | Violin\nEthan Buck | Alto\nRabiah Kabir | Flute \nRabiah Kabir is a Jazz flute player who uses her instrument\, skill in storytelling and unique style to bend the expectations of what “Jazz” music really is. \nBorn and raised in the East Bay\, Rabiah draws from her lived experience as a mixed Black woman to create music that is meditative\, contemplative and conceptual. For her\, musical memory begins in the kitchen\, with her dad playing the sounds of Charles Mingus\, Phillip Glass\, Erik B. & Rakim\, Dead Can Dance\, Toots and the Maytals\, Compay Segundo and Natacha Atlas (to name a few)\, as he cooked dinner in their Berkeley home. \nAs she dived into the Bay Area Jazz scene\, she noticed how few women surrounded her\, a problem that has plagued Jazz since its inception at the turn of the 20th century. Her debut album\, “Jezebel: Rewritten” and related Honors Thesis paper from Stanford University\, “The Jezebel Flute”\, explores themes of Black womanhood and feminism\, a core part of Jazz history often overlooked. She hopes the project carves a new place for scholarship surrounding flute players\, power and Black feminist artistic expression. Her thesis\, winner of the 2025 Stanford University George Fredrickson award\, is published on Stanford’s Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity department page. The album\,“Jezebel: Rewritten” is available for streaming on October 24\, 2025. \nRabiah has had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with artists like Murray Low\, Zheniia\, José Andrés\, Taleen\, Jesús Díaz and Edgardo Cambon. She is unbelievably grateful for the vibrant and diverse musical community of the Bay Area and strives to celebrate its influence in her music.

SUMMARY:Anne Sajdera Quartet
DESCRIPTION:As a pianist\, composer\, and bandleader\, Anne Sajdera\, is a creative force whose music encompasses an unusually far-flung array of traditions. Known for her burnished lyricism\, she melds American and Brazilian jazz with her training in European classical music\, creating an utterly personal sound that’s melodically verdant\, harmonically sophisticated and rhythmically compelling. Her first release\, Azul (Bijuri Records\, 2012) was co-produced by Ray Obiedo and featured a performance from percussion legend Airto Moreira\, earning a spot on JAZZIZ Magazines Top Ten Critic’s Poll for 2012\, and inclusion in Latin Jazz Corner’s Great Latin Jazz Albums for the same year. Her second release\, New Year (Bijuri Records\, 2018)\, features two composer/instrumentalists from Prague\, a special guest appearance by the renowned sax player Bob Mintzer\, as well as some of the finest musicians from the SF Bay Area. Also produced by Ray Obiedo\, it was chosen by Down Beat Magazine for the December 2018 Editor’s Pick list\, and can be heard on jazz radio stations throughout the US. She has performed in many of the Bay Area’s most frequented venues including The California Jazz Conservatory\, Herbst Theater\, Piedmont Piano Company and SFJAZZ. In 2020\, she performed with Hindustani master violinist Kala Ramnath for the Global Fusion concert in Dubai. Sajdera’s newest release\, It’s Here (Bijuri Records\, 2024)\, was released in September 2024. Crowdfunded and supported in part by a grant from Intermusic SF\, the new album features stellar performances from some of the finest jazz musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area\, as well as the fiery Czech horn duo from her 2018 release.

SUMMARY:Paul Mehling’s Le Jazz Hot
DESCRIPTION:Le Jazz Hot (the Quartet/Trio of the Hot Club of San Francisco) is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin\, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club\, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group’s superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. Hearing the ensemble live\, or on any of their eleven albums\, carries the listener back to the 1930’s and to the small\, smoky jazz clubs of Paris or the refined lounges of the famous Hotel Ritz. Often called gypsy jazz\, the music of Le Jazz Hot has entranced audiences around the globe for over 30 years. Critics have hailed the group’s playing as “intricate\, scorching and often brilliant…” Acoustic Guitar. From festivals in Mexico and France to concert halls across North America\, Le Jazz Hot keeps this historic music fresh and alive \nPaul Mehling | Guitar & Vocals\nEvan Price | Violin\nDexter Williams | Bass\nJordan Samuels | Rhythm Guitar
