SUMMARY:Suzanna Smith
DESCRIPTION:Returning to Keys Jazz Bistro\, Suzanna Smith fronts another stellar ensemble to work her magic around the Peggy Lee songbook. “There are relatively few contemporary female vocalists who evoke Peggy Lee\, at least not genuinely. Suzanna Smith numbers among that rare ilk. That Smith sounds like Lee — slightly breathy and warmly sensual with a hint of huskiness — is undeniable\, but the parallels extend much further. Lee’s ability to not just caress a ballad but smother it in mink has seldom been matched. She was also a sage swinger — never too much\, never too little — as well as a first-rate songwriter. Smith checks all those boxes.” \n— Christopher Louden\, Jazz Times

SUMMARY:Howard Wiley
DESCRIPTION:Howard Wiley presents a celebration of soul-jazz\, funk\, gospel\, and R&B steeped in West Coast flavor at Keys Jazz Bistro combining hard-driving originals with a funkified selection of classics. \nWiley has been a standout on the Bay Area music scene since he was a teenager in the mid-1990s\, and he’s taken on the mantle of mentor\, sage\, and prophet of jazz. More specifically\, jazz as a populist art form that thrives best when its shared roots with blues\, funk\, R&B\, soul\, hip-hop\, and gospel live close to the surface.

SUMMARY:Dillon Vado Vibes Trio ft. Jeff Denson & Isaac Schwartz
DESCRIPTION:Dillon Vado is a multi-instrumentalist/producer who makes music that is  honest and inspired. Dillon’s vibraphone trio plays a spacious alchemy of music inspired by Brazilian composers like Guinga and Milton Nascimento\, and funk-infused music like Lonnie Smith and John Scofield\, all while being informed by the spiritual and liberation seeking stances of Ornette and Charlie Haden. This group’s feet are firmly on the ground with eyes set on the stars\, playing groovy music with a spiritual quality uniquely suited to the percussive yet otherworldly nature of the vibraphone. The trio features Jeff Denson on bass and Isaac Schwartz on drums. \nDillon performs all over the Bay Area and West Coast\, including a once a month residency at Keys Jazz Bistro in San Francisco’s historic North Beach. He can be found playing vibes with many of his own projects including Heart Matter with Amy D\,  vibes trio with many esteemed colleagues including Dave King and Kanoa Mendenhall\, and drumming/composing for Swerve Control\, The Michael Echaniz Trio\, Sandy Cressman’s Homenagem Brasileira and Never Weather\, who released their debut album\, Blissonance\, on Ridgeway Records in 2020.

SUMMARY:Sherri Robert’s: “I’m Hip!” A Tribute to the Hep-Cats of Jazz
DESCRIPTION:“I’m Hip!”- A Tribute to the Hep-Cat Singer/Songwriters of Jazz: Matt Dennis\, Bobby Troup\, Dave Frishberg\, and Bob Dorough \nThey wrote the hippest songs of the times ( like “Route 66”\, “Angel Eyes”\, and that satirical anthem of the genre\,“I’m Hip!”\,) recorded by the era’s greatest stars\, including Nat King Cole\, Frank Sinatra\, and Billie Holiday. Yet they themselves were also unrepentant Lounge Lizards and Jazz Club Rats\, craving the occasional spotlight and itching to play the piano and croon their wares to their own finger popping audiences. \nDrawing a fascinating connection between the Bebop innovators of the 1940’s and 50’s\, the Beat generation that revered them\, and these hipster singer/songwriters who drank from the wellspring (not to mention the martini glasses!) of both\, Vocalist Sherri Roberts returns to Keys with a program that pays tribute to the “Craftsmen of Cool.” Their joyfully clever songs weren’t written for stage or sentimental films\, but for jazz singers to sing to jazz audiences- conversational\, witty\, blue-sy\, and hip! \nCalled “a superior bop and standards vocalist “ by the Los Angeles Times\, Sherri promises to bring her own distinct “West Coast Cool” vibe to this entertaining program. JazzTimes said it best: “How appropriate that Sherri Roberts opens with Bobby Troup’s “You’re Looking at Me.” For\, stylistically\, Roberts bears a significant resemblance to Mrs. Troup\, gin ’n’ satin seductress Julie London. But where London’s voice was pale and distant as a winter moon\, Roberts’ is all dappled sunshine…Enchanting.” \nDavid Udolf – piano \nChris Amberger- bass \nAkira Tana- drums
