SUMMARY:Nate Gilbreath and Alan Jones’s OHANA Collective
DESCRIPTION:Nate Gilbreath and Alan Jones’s OHANA Collective at Black Cat showcases a young San Francisco quintet co-led by trombonist Nate Gilbreath and bassist Alan Jones\, taking its name from the Hawaiian word for family. Gilbreath is a 2025 graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Roots\, Jazz\, and American Music program\, where he studied with longtime Santana trombonist Jeff Cressman and wrote much of his own recital material; Jones and drummer Miles Turk both played in that conservatory band\, and the group has carried that chemistry forward. Filled out by Nicolaus Gelin on trumpet and Mwanzi Harriot on guitar\, the two-horn frontline gives the collective a full\, arrangement-minded sound built around original compositions and contemporary jazz repertoire.

SUMMARY:Amanda Addleman: Songs and Stories of Home
DESCRIPTION:Amanda Addleman at Black Cat brings the New York City–based\, San Francisco–raised vocalist\, pianist\, composer\, and arranger home for a program exploring the fusion of her two worlds: her Bay Area roots and her growing New York presence. Her voice is rooted yet unmistakably modern\, built on a sincere reverence for jazz’s great traditions and paired with original works and jazz-hued interpretations drawn from contemporary folk\, R&B\, and pop. Addleman holds a master’s from Manhattan School of Music and a bachelor’s from Berklee College of Music\, teaches at Long Island University’s Roc Nation School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division\, and recently released Into the Light\, a critically praised collection contrasting the light and dark moments of her life and career; she’s joined by bassist Nico Martinez and drummer Zach Adleman.
