DESCRIPTION:Eric Markowitz brings his quartet to the Dawn Club. The Bay Area based jazz bassist grew up in New Jersey not far from the jazz mecca of New York City\, where as a kid\, he was fortunate to see some of the best jazz musicians perform on a regular basis. Markowitz went to college in St. Louis\, but soon realized academics took a backseat to his love of jazz music. Good fortune led him to meet his mentors: drummer and Grant Green alum Joe Charles and Saxophonist / Composer Jimmy Sherrod. He spent the next 10 years playing and recording as a top bassist in the St. Louis jazz scene. \nIn 2003\, he moved to the bay area and quickly established himself as a first call bassist in the local jazz community. On any given day you can find him playing with local greats Vince Lateano\, Andrew Speight\, Patrick Wolff\, Adam Shulman\, Jay Standards\, Jeffrey Burr\, Smith Dobson\, Keith Saunders\, Tony Johnson and more. He has also had the great fortune to work with jazz legends when they come to town. This has included Jimmy Heath\, Harold Mabern\, Dina Derose\, Joe Magnorelli\, Grant Stewart\, Ralph Moore\, and Richie Cole.

His jazz experience has led to performances and/or recordings with the likes of McCoy Tyner\, Kenny Barron\, Joe Henderson\, Mike Clark\, Gary Burton\, Johnny Coles and the Metropole Orchestra. He has toured internationally with Ray Charles\, Joe Lovano\, and Airto Moreira/Flora Purim. Wainapel has visited Brazil more than twenty times\, staying for at least one month each time. His deep love for and research into Brazilian music has resulted in performances and recordings with Guinga\, Amilton Godoy\, Léa Freire\, Jovino Santos Neto\, Marco César\, Nelson Ayres\, Filó Machado and Paulo Bellinati\, among many other notables from that country. To date Harvey has presented his work in clubs\, festivals and studios in 17 countries.

He has also performed and toured with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis\, and has shared the stage with legends including Sonny Rollins\, Herbie Hancock\, Michael Brecker\, Bobby Hutcherson\, Cedar Walton\, Hank Jones\, and many more. \nA prolific recording artist and entrepreneur\, Jones founded WJ3 Records in 2000. The label has since released over 18 recordings\, showcasing both his own work and that of leading voices in contemporary jazz. DESCRIPTION:Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music\, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound\, a uniquely American concoction\, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. As founder\, guitarist\, and main composer Dave Ricketts says\, the band is “in love with the music of Louis Armstrong\, Fats Waller and Jimmie Rodgers\, as well as the stories\, the life styles and the foot steps of hundreds of other great jazz\, blues\, country and rock musicians that created the sound of American Music from roughly 1900-1950’s” \nGaucho has recorded eight albums\, tours regularly\, and has an increasing repertoire of over forty original tunes. Seven of their tunes are featured in the 2012 film “Trattoria”; one was chosen by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their website; and another is featured in the outtakes section of the Pixar DVD CARS 2. In 2018\, Gaucho got a song in the Hollywood Movie “Destination Wedding” starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. And two of Dave’s own compositions will be placed in a New York City based indie film\, “Stationed at Home\,” in 2022. \nLed by eminent guitarist\, Dave Ricketts\, the group has been a San Francisco mainstay for nearly twenty years\, and one of the busiest bands in the bay area playing 5 to 10 gigs a week. Together with virtuosos Rob Reich–accordion and Craig Venetresco–guitar\, superlative bassist Ari Munkres\, the honorable Leon Oakley–cornet\, and versatile percussionist Steve Apple\, these guys keep crowds moving with their beats and complex rhythms.
