SUMMARY:Viajó de la Música

Led by saxophonist Renner\, this jazz quartet moves effortlessly from bossa and samba to slow‑dance ballads\, weaving guitars\, percussion\, and rich vocals into one continuous journey. SUMMARY:Nick Rossi
DESCRIPTION:Nick Rossi brings a lifetime of deep musical devotion to The Deluxe\, a Bay Area guitar legend who rose through the local R&B scene with The Loved Ones and Ron Silva & The Monarchs before dedicating himself fully to jazz guitar and its history from the 1920s through the 1960s. Internationally recognized as a premiere swing dance bandleader with his hard-driving Swing Four/Six and the founder of the Jazzopaters — one of the few ensembles anywhere dedicated to Duke Ellington’s small-group repertoire — Rossi is equally celebrated as a writer\, historian\, and researcher whose work has appeared in Acoustic Guitar\, The Fretboard Journal\, and liner notes for Resonance and Ace Records. A true custodian of the jazz tradition\, this is a musician who doesn’t just play the music — he lives it.

SUMMARY:Rotating Bands at the Lion’s Den
DESCRIPTION:Experience the resurgence of San Francisco’s historic Chinatown nightlife at the Lion’s Den.  Tucked away on Wentworth Place\, this bi-level lounge and performance space blends modern cocktail culture with the East meets West spirit of the Chinatown’s golden age. Every week\, the venue transforms into a unique destination for live music\, featuring a rotating roster of the city’s up and coming funk\, soul\, and R&B ensembles. \nThe Sound: From 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM\, the stage belongs to a curated selection of live bands. The rotation frequently features bands such as Mark Maiden\, Funky Sound Experience\, Jay Neal\, The Groove Foundation\, Baycoin Beats\, and Git With It. Whether it’s deep-pocket funk or smooth contemporary soul\, the music is designed to bridge the gap between a sophisticated lounge set and a packed dance floor. \nThe Atmosphere: The design features plush velvet banquettes\, historic photography\, and dim\, moody lighting. It is a space built for “adult” nightlife—where you can enjoy an Asian-inspired craft cocktail during the live set before the room transitions to a high-energy DJ vibe after 11:00 PM. \nThe Experience: The Lion’s Den is a rare “no cover” gem in the heart of the city\, offering world-class musicianship in an intimate\, stylish setting. It is a place to rediscover the “cool” of Chinatown while supporting the next generation of San Francisco’s musical talent. \n\nA Legacy Reclaimed\nThe Lion’s Den occupies a legendary footprint in San Francisco history. In the 1940s and 50s\, Chinatown was a global nightlife epicenter\, home to iconic clubs like the Forbidden City. The current venue at 57 Wentworth Place was once the site of Dragon A Go Go\, a 1960s hotspot that kept the neighborhood buzzing during the height of the San Francisco counterculture. After decades of relative quiet due to changing zoning laws\, the reopening of The Lion’s Den in 2021 marked the first new nightclub to open in Chinatown in nearly 40 years. Today\, it stands as a cultural bridge\, honoring the glamour of the “Harlem of the West” era while providing a vital modern stage for Asian-American artists and the local creative community.

SUMMARY:Magic School Busk
DESCRIPTION:The Magic School Busk holds weekly residency directly in front of The Red Window at the corner of Stockton and Columbus. This high‑energy busking collective has become one of North Beach’s unofficial “resident joy‑makers\,” blurring the line between band and audience as people pause\, sing along\, or dance on the sidewalk. Whether you are enjoying a gin tonic on the Red Window’s outdoor patio or just walking by with a cannoli in hand\, the Busk provides a genuine North Beach experience. \n\nAbout The Magic School Busk\nBorn from the city’s post-pandemic street-side revival\, The Magic School Busk is a collective of veteran Bay Area musicians dedicated to the art of public performance. They emphasize the acoustic and the authentic\, eschewing heavy amplification for the natural resonance of brass\, strings\, and woodwinds. Often featuring members from some of the city’s most popular jazz and swing outfits\, the “Busk” is celebrated for its ability to read a crowd and create a party out of thin air. They represent the best of San Francisco’s musical resilience—keeping the city’s culture loud\, proud\, and accessible to everyone on the street. \n

SUMMARY:The Cottontails
DESCRIPTION:The Cottontails bring a joyful\, swinging\, and gloriously eclectic sound to The Deluxe\, a Bay Area ensemble anchored by singer-songwriter Karina Denike — a performer with over 20 albums to her name\, international appearances at Montreux Jazz Festival and the Reading Festival\, and credits spanning Dance Hall Crashers to Ralph Carney’s Serious Jass Project. The band is a gathering of some of San Francisco’s most accomplished and versatile musicians: pianist Michael McIntosh\, whose resume stretches from Jonathan Richman and Jolie Holland to a composed opera drawn from Samuel Beckett; guitarist and bassist Vic Wong\, a gypsy jazz specialist whose Django Reinhardt-influenced playing keeps the rhythm irresistibly alive; drummer and co-creator Randy Odell\, a symphonic and jazz percussionist who has played Jazz at Lincoln Center twice; saxophonist and clarinetist Tom Griesser\, a 25-year veteran of the SF scene who has recorded with the Marcus Shelby Orchestra and performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl; and bassist Joe Kyle Jr.\, the beloved Bay Area fixture whose feel\, agility\, and tragicomic asides have made him one of the most in-demand players in the region. Rounding out the night are guest musicians Allegra Bandy\, trombonist and arranger Scott Larson — who has performed with Ray Brown\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and Maria Muldaur — and Christianna Valentina\, the honey-tongued half of 1920s harmonizing duo The Bluebelles. This is San Francisco’s musical community at its most generous\, playful\, and alive.

SUMMARY:Gaucho Jazz
DESCRIPTION:Gaucho is a masterful Bay Area band that combines the influence of gypsy jazz of 1930’s Europe with the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music\, gutbucket blues and elements of ragtime. Their sound\, a uniquely American concoction\, blends instrumental acuity and lighthearted humor that keep their audience coming back for more. As founder\, guitarist\, and main composer Dave Ricketts says\, the band is “in love with the music of Louis Armstrong\, Fats Waller and Jimmie Rodgers\, as well as the stories\, the life styles and the foot steps of hundreds of other great jazz\, blues\, country and rock musicians that created the sound of American Music from roughly 1900-1950’s” \nGaucho has recorded eight albums\, tours regularly\, and has an increasing repertoire of over forty original tunes. Seven of their tunes are featured in the 2012 film “Trattoria”; one was chosen by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for their website; and another is featured in the outtakes section of the Pixar DVD CARS 2. In 2018\, Gaucho got a song in the Hollywood Movie “Destination Wedding” starring Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. And two of Dave’s own compositions will be placed in a New York City based indie film\, “Stationed at Home\,” in 2022. \nLed by eminent guitarist\, Dave Ricketts\, the group has been a San Francisco mainstay for nearly twenty years\, and one of the busiest bands in the bay area playing 5 to 10 gigs a week. Together with virtuosos Rob Reich–accordion and Craig Venetresco–guitar\, superlative bassist Ari Munkres\, the honorable Leon Oakley–cornet\, and versatile percussionist Steve Apple\, these guys keep crowds moving with their beats and complex rhythms.

SUMMARY:Atta Kid
DESCRIPTION:Keys Jazz Bistro welcomes Atta Kid\, an all-star crew that reaches into the swampy lilt of New Orleans and the razor-sharp precision of the East Bay at the same time. This staple of the Bay Area scene since 2013 is led by Daniel Casares (sax and vocals)and Max Cowan (B-3\, keyboards and vocals)\, Atta Kid will take you on a round-trip from Oakland to the bayou in every set. This February\, Atta Kid showcases the breadth of their repertoire. Listen for a reimagined Lee Morgan tune or a Stevie Wonder ballad turned upbeat funk. Come for their original compositions\, where they showcase a sound that has become truly their own and catch selections from their recent appearances at Keys Jazz Bistro where they paid tribute to Stuff and Maceo Parker. With deep roots in Bay Area music and an imagination of infinite locale\, Atta Kid is a band not to miss.
