In the Indian classical tradition, ragas are intimate expressions aligned with specific times of day—a concept known as samay raga. Because most modern concerts take place in the evening, hearing morning ragas performed live during their intended hours is an extraordinary rarity. When these melodies are rendered in the early light, the music resonates in natural harmony with the surrounding atmosphere, creating a deeply grounding and tranquil experience.
Monthly Morning Ragas at Bird & Beckett is a morning concert of Indian classical vocal music from Swati Jhaveri, a student of Pandit Hemang Mehta in the Mewati Gharana. Jhaveri founded the Swara Institute for Music Research and Appreciation to widen the reach of the classical tradition through teaching and contemporary recordings. The series is presented by Rootstock Arts.
