Benny Amon Trio

San Francisco–based drummer Benny Amón brings his piano trio to Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio for an evening exploring the mid-century small-group jazz catalog. Featuring pianist Charles Chen and bassist Mikiya Matsuda, the ensemble draws direct inspiration from the classic piano trios of the 1940s through 1960s, particularly the sophisticated swing, dynamic restraint, and spacious arrangements pioneered by Ahmad Jamal, Erroll Garner, and George Shearing. Driven by Amón’s refined brushwork and crisp rhythmic feel, the trio presents melodic interpretations of Great American Songbook standards and classic bebop tunes tailored for the club’s speakeasy-style listening room.
