About
Emily Day is a San Francisco jazz vocalist, arranger, songwriter, and bandleader whose work draws on the Great American Songbook, swing-era jazz, and vintage American popular music. She began performing jazz as a teenager, earned a BFA in Jazz Voice from The New School and an MA in Popular Music Studies from the University of Liverpool, and taught jazz studies and music fundamentals at colleges in the Northeast before moving to San Francisco in 2012. In the Bay Area, Day leads the swing and vintage-dance band Cosmo Alleycats as well as the Emily Day Swingtet, a smaller concert project that features rotating musicians from the San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles scenes. Her work combines vocal interpretation, arranging, original songs, and historically informed swing repertoire.
